Celia Chavez is an artist and alchemist. Her deep understanding of the theory and practice of vocal harmony makes her a unique force to be reckoned with. Whether in the studio, coffee shop, or on stage at Madison Square Garden, she elevates every performance with her uncanny ability. Fun fact: I also interviewed Celia on episode one of my "The Working Singer" podcast, so listen to hear her story at www.theworkingsinger.com, and then get thee to her workshop!

I give Celia 5 stars and would give her 5 more stars if I could. She is transformative and I simply don't have enough words to express my gratitude for the safe and encouraging space she creates for her singers in her workshops. She is so knowledgeable and beyond gifted. A million thank yous for making this little girl's dream come true. See you soon!

I'll be honest: the first time I attended, I wasn't sure I had much more to learn, because I've been harmonizing/singing for so long. Maybe a bit arrogant on my part. 😉 But, wow, guys! I've learned so much! I really tightened up my process, strengthened my listening skills, and now approach my live and studio work with much more awareness and presence.

Celia is an amazing teacher ! I can hear harmony parts much more clearly, and have a road map for how to approach them - the way Celia explains everything has simplified the process, and made it so fun- I’m no longer intimidated, and I have a lot more freedom.

Setting the non judgmental tone and demonstrating that EVERYone can sing harmony was the best introduction...Since I've always just gone on instinct and maybe the most basic theory, and often times I'm tentative -- this workshop gave me foundation and some core understanding. So the difference is -- I feel like I have a few new tools and listening skills. But want to do more!

Some of what we worked on was vocal blend, finding your starting note, staying on your own part, and how to distinguish individual parts more accurately when listening to a recording.

Celia is a supportive teacher and amazing singer!

These workshops are the best! Small enough for individual attention and yet, the ability to sing parts with others. I got so much out of just a few hours.

I had a terrific experience taking Harmony at Play. Celia provided invaluable tools to help me increase and refine my ability to quickly find the right note for harmonizing. I am finding that her tools and recommendations also apply in other areas of music for me, such as quickly learning the correct melody of a new piece and being able to sight-sing with better accuracy. I look forward to taking other classes with this wonderful teacher!

For me, hearing the 3rd or the 5th comes pretty easily. My goal was to listen for other harmony parts that are more challenging to not only me, but perhaps to others who may not want to or be able to do them and to develop the skill of hearing/singing those other intervals quickly. After taking only one of her vocal harmony workshops, I did just that in the next class! I surprised myself! It’s such a non-threatening, supportive, positive environment and she is gifted, not only with her experience and skill, but in her, I believe, intuitiveness, and gentle, yet straightforward approach. Thank you so much, CELIA

I just took a Harmony workshop with Celia. It was really useful for learning to figure out how to sing harmony on the fly AND it was also really fun. Celia creates such a kind atmosphere where you feel like you have time to figure things out in your own way.

Celia created a very comfortable environment with a well thought out curriculum for teaching harmony. There was a good balance of teaching materials and applying it through singing. (And after the vocal harmony workshop, Celia let us stay to see her concert for free!) I look forward to studying with Celia again!

I took Celia's Harmony at Play Workshop and had so much fun. Whether you're a pro singer or a novice who simply wants to learn to sing with a group you'll learn lots of useful information in this supportive, non-judgmental setting. Celia takes time to explain and implement concepts that might be new to some in her class and gives her students plenty of space to play! Looking forward to the next one!

I’ve taken Celia’s workshop 3 times and each meeting was different. The combination of participants sets a unique tone and Celia adjusts to how large the group is (never more than 10 or 12) and accommodates every level of experience. She clearly express her policy about having a non-judgmental / welcoming vibe. She is warm, open, super knowledgable and completely unpretentious. Even if you have no experience — you will come away from her workshops with something valuable — useful tools you won’t forget! Highly recommend!

Celia is a natural teacher. She knows how to set people at ease, and explain things in a clear understandable manner. Her class was also REALLY fun, and we ended up singing a lot of beautiful harmony. I would highly recommend Celia and her classes to anyone!
